Announcing peace The easiest bloodline to bathe in Then wipe off with Your noose and the next breath What is real power? Who holds my head down? Is it invisible? Or a hand attached to my own arm You’ll split the continents To find that they’ll reform In the same mess you saw before You’ll split the continents And find no relief in new divisions, maps, or compasses Who holds my head down? Now I’m caught in the spill Just like you will Just like everyone has guilt I’ll plead innocent to bide time And see the fuse finish I’m dying at 29 Just try and stop me Man your suite and tie Dressed in a trusted lie To cast your ballots For the end of the world

I’m hungover from discordance Exhausted with dismembering So I do the only sensible thing And attack the rhythm that starts the dance Can you reconstruct the accident Before the airbag became my death? To quench the ash Of your harvest consuming me Dissolve before there is another word Into my grossly passive revenge So I do the only sensible thing And attack the rhythm that starts the dance I’m hungover from discordance Exhausted with dismembering Diverge so this variant in self-assurance Can never re-emerge Surviving only to repeatedly offend And burn, burn the neighbor’s house again And let another tithe of skin relinquish To needless cauterizing

I poured myself into you Like gasoline onto the fire Of a house that I hated (that I hated) Cysts screech in my pockets Of the foolish martyrdom in abstinence Acceptance is so desperate Let anyone bear witness Make me impossible to misinterpret But I'm only halfway And my skin is still opaque Love is the miracle that we fabricate Drills whipped into a fever pitch Fervent fratricide politics of body and mind Accepting chest wounds with bliss Romance is dead and I killed it Romance is dead and I buried it Inside the spinal fluid of leather-bound entries Romance is dead and I killed it I don't remember what it's like to feel this way anymore I don't know how to act or what to do with myself I'm going to explode (Killed it, I killed it) (Killed it, I buried it) (Killed it, I killed it) (Killed it, I buried it) Love is the miracle that we fabricate Drills whipped into a fever pitch Fervent fratricide politics of body and mind Accepting chest wounds with bliss Take your fucking fake world And detonate it Love is the miracle that we fabricate Love is the miracle that we fabricate

Septic siren Propagate in me Broadcast festering in mad affection For the amputee Damaged silhouettes Decaying clarity We all drown in the tide Yearning for that Feeling once again Can I go back? I can't say it’d be any different Obtuse and obdurate, we'd be here either way Memories dance in startling static waves Trite and intransigent, no change could even have a name to Call itself, architect To the culture of my mind Waves of static misdirect The influence and addiction intertwined (Stuck rewinding) Septic siren Decaying clarity Broadcast festering Yearning for that feeling once again Damaged silhouettes Propagate in me We all drown in the tide In mad affection Still rewinding x3 Trapped rewinding In my mind I'll never know What was lost To the evidence Stuck rewinding

My grotesque empire of a body This shrapnel shard capsule I want escape Deport me Extract my citizenship in this civil war I want out of it Mind and flesh are one One in the same Of the documents in blood I scorch Shred the evidence That existence happened here The air raid drills Espionage pills When can I be responsible? When can I be capable? Of retribution Of salvation Give me coup d’etat Give me coup d’etat Erase, capsize My hands are full of empty life support Erase, capsize My hands are full Full of empty life support My grotesque empire of a body This shrapnel shard capsule I want escape Deport me Extract my citizenship in this civil war I want out of it Take my organs Rip them out Preserve them in ancient jars Give me chances Give me a second life Give me coup d’etat Give me my coup d’etat Give me coup d’etat

Hey you Just sink You deserve it Yes, yes this easily You were doomed from the start From the click of the button The leaflet drop details how to disintegrate And ways the pulse should act Reset yourself to zero Humble that racing insect heart The questions you vote on are so irrelevant Hey you (Hey you) Just sink Extinguish resolve Your price sticker is your biography You’ll never have the passwords You’ll always take the barcodes Your statistics are my parade Reset yourself to zero Humble that racing insect heart The precious questions you vote on are so irrelevant The leaflet drop details how to disintegrate And ways the pulse should stop

Activate me Wake at the same time For the same time Fight for the same rinds An infection To stay sequenced By these images Pin my hopes Pin my loves My total social order on The burden to become fact To be reminded Cherished by who? Who sees me? Everything is a device Even you and I Everything is a device Even you and I Activate me Wake at the same time For the same time Echoing ourselves shamelessly Wake at the same time Even if not for the same fight Just raise a limb and be fucking heard Detach the islands in my mind Let me go Let me be free Detach the islands in my mind Let me go Let me be free
10.
I hold nothing in my hands And see no future The emptiness is right but why Can't I be content in my correctness? There's no escaping the path because In rejection it will flood With disaster and the choices that never should have happened You are the ghost That I haunt The specter I can't let sleep Because You'll never be less than the perfect fuel For the most horrid Solace eroding what's inside (me) Exaggerate myself into being a target Red stripes over skin I know it covers nothing But I'd rather forget Just tell me you want to lose Just release me And say you'd rather be alone These hardened flakes of disease That entrench into my back Reminders of when I'd set us up to breathe But then just let it Rot Let it rot There's no air in this factory So let the pistons crush my Dying lungs into dust Crush them into fucking dust

about

The Burden To Become Fact needs to be celebrated for achieving a truly eclectic sound with only the common instruments and tools found in any old rock band. Detach The Islands have no need for orchestral sections, asinine skits, or row upon row of synthesizers and keyboards – the band create multifaceted hardcore with just strings, skins, and vocals, and an effects pedal or two, achieving a more manic ‘mathcore’ sound that 99% of all the bands operating under that tag today. At a time when everyone’s looking for ‘the next big thing’ (the next big Dillinger, let’s be honest), this one better not slip under the radar of those clamouring for beautifully structured chaos. Majestically creative, simply superb. - Heavy Blog Is Heavy

The music is ultimately not easily categorized. While there are other luminary bands that specialize really memorably in various elements running through The Burden to Become Fact, it ultimately feels like its own creation and isn’t derivative. This music is absolutely uncompromising. 5/5 - Captured Howls

The record is an excellent blend of New York hardcore with a lot of interesting, almost progressive tendencies, that makes for an interesting listen that'll also make you want to punch someone. - Metal Injection

Detach the Islands clearly understands how to deliver complex arrangements, but the clincher here is how effortless they make it all sound. In other words, while Detach the Islands are certainly techy in their delivery, things still manage to sound catchy, something that isn't easy to pull off. - No Echo

New York art-hardcore quintet Detach the Islands’ debut studio release, is razor sharp. ...the five members move as one entity, every pound of the drums helping to drive home a particularly harsh chord or the desperate vocals seeming to pull everything upwards with their climbing insanity. - Noise Not Music
